Part of the Green Picture by Joe Yursik

Environmental responsibility, sustainability and energy efficiency encompass the basic components of the green picture when discussing your window and door product options. Major manufacturers lead the industry in incorporating these key criteria for the builder and his client.

National brand windows and patio doors are currently manufactured to be both durable and energy efficient. Exceptional warranties are currently offered for quality wood windows and patio doors. A twenty year warrantee, Energy Star qualifications and efficient glazing systems insure high quality and enduring performance. Energy Star qualifying product exceeds the minimum energy criteria for specific climate regions. Some manufacturers exceed the current requirements by as much as 40%. Product design flexibility allows for maximized natural day lighting and ventilation options, creating interiors that are healthier and more efficient. Optimized glass options, Energy Star ratings and the use of certified sustainable wood components enable wood windows and patio doors to be key factors integrated into your green building project.

Interior door options that are currently available also have a role in the green picture. The use of SCS certified (Scientific Certification Systems certify product for their use of recycled content) recycled wood fiber used in the construction of molded

interior door facings or “skins” assures the support of sustainable construction. Using select manufacturers molded interior doors can also help a project achieve third party project certification (ie: LEEDS for residential new construction).

Exterior entry doors which support sustainable construction can also be chosen, whether they are wood, fiberglass or steel. The use of certified lumber in wood doors and the life expectancies of fiberglass and steel, coupled with Energy Star ratings, assure compliance to sustainability as well as longevity and performance for your entry doors.

The Ridgefield Supply Company, partnering with key suppliers and manufacturers, maintains a strong and informed position at the front edge of the sustainable, green building initiative. Allow us to apply our expertise to your upcoming project.

Living in the Woods & Lovin' Every Minute!

As we clean up from the fall and repair our lawns from the salt and sand damage or that snowplow that scrapped the corner of the mailbox garden, and to boot the spiders and snakes etc. are waking up here are a few preventive tips to enjoy the outside as we green up for spring and welcome summer.
(even if you do live in the woods)
Ants,  Big and black, or little tiny sweets they appear as a large black trail that you can't help but to follow, but by the time you get to that army you can hardly believe your eyes as they march along with a purpose. Now is the time to treat foundations and lawns to keep ants out before they damage your house, and your garden.
Plants such as Hosta's, that waxy looking stalk that mimicks much like a closed umbrella if you have them, their popping up and the deer will eat them down to the ground so deer repellent is very important and not for nothing but it works on all the other fondue we plant for their enjoyment.
Also Roses have to be treated around the outside of the plant so the insects don't nest and ruin your summer and of course your flowers.

So as you shop and fill the cart with all the what nots don't forget gloves for the poison ivy, rakes to save your back and stock up on all the sprays and repellents
so the vermin will stay out of your yard and walk down the road to your neighbor.

Have fun!
Susan
